ELV (Electronic Steering Column Lock) failure is a self-occurring mechanical failure in the steering column lock. The occurrence of the fault does not depend on any other fault in the vehicle. In case of malfunction, even if there is no problem with the vehicle key, the working key will not start the vehicle because the ELV steering column lock will not be activated. Traditionally, a new ELV steering column lock must be installed in the vehicle and programmed to the vehicle—a costly and time-consuming process.

Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Unplug the vehicle's steering lock from the car.

Step 2: If the vehicle steering lock is in lock mode, the steering lock must be removed or disengaged from the car.

Step 3: Connect the Kia/Hyundai ELV emulator to the car.

Step 4: Start the vehicle. No coding or programming is necessary.

Operational Notes:

• The emulator is not powered permanently; GND and +12v are switched on by PDM briefly for LOCK/UNLOCK actions.

• Kia ESCL emulator operation is managed by IPM, which communicates through a serial communication line and enables ESCL operation by pulling the ESL ENABLE pin to +12v.

• Both ESCL outputs (serial communication line and ESCL UNLOCK) are open collector outputs without pullups on the board.

• The LED on the emulator board blinks when any action is performed (e.g., a request for lock/unlock or when ESCL is powered on).
